Arrowhead hunting in the fields of rural Marengo County Alabama with my father sparked my interest in archaeology at an early age. I began to ponder the origins and purpose of the artifacts we found. Consequently, my parents took me to a place that continues to inspire: one of the most important prehistoric sites in the United States, Moundville Archaeological Park.
My work revolves around the Mesoamerican and Native American/Mississippian Cultures. Recently, my research has been to visit different historical sites, such as the Etowah Indian Mounds in Georgia and the Florence Indian Mound Museum. During these trips I found inspiring images: many  disappearing native cultural symbols and environments. My belief is that these images and the history surrounding them are still significant, and my goal is to better understand what Joseph Campbell referred to as the “mythic image”. Through my own created images I intend to offer a new interpretation of these mysterious signs and symbols, and a chance for others to contemplate the disappearance of endangered cultural sites and their relevance. I have created visual narratives which employ multiple traditional prints styles; the majority of these techniques are relief, etchings, and stone lithography prints.
